My Hot Rod Bike Build
It started with a frame that was bent and had only a to short of rake for the 2" over springer forks that my wife gave me for Christmas. After trying to make a round peg fit in a square hole I was ready to give up until Rod helped me find this new one. The soul of this bike came from me, but the heart came from a salvaged bike that came into Pinwall one cold and rainy night. Bryan and Rod made me a deal on this S&S Motor with a BDL 3"open primary and trans. That night I cried I was so happy that I had all that I needed to get started. I had a gas tank and was not thinking about a paint job yet - just wet sanding my Sportster tank to get it ready for paint. Then, one day a salvage Sporster came in to the shop. The wheels in my head went spinning so fast that I could smell rubber burning and knew I had to have this tank and fender set. The tank had a small dent in the side but that was no problem; a nice old style Harley Emblem covered it nicely and gave it a 50's look. |
For my the wiring, I used a all in one control box from Altma that I used on Rods bike. I had Scotty make me a bracket for my micro indicator lights. Everything from the fender set worked but the back fender, so I needed to come up with a plan. After some thought, I knew that I needed to do something that would give me the 50's look. I used a steel trailer fender from TSC and made my own struts and brackets so I could mount it to the swingarm for a hard tail look. The seat was the find. The Pinwall gang had a booth up at the IX Center big Swapmeet and I had tagged a long to help. After a long day of passing out cards Rod and I went for a walk around the show to take a break. We walked by this seat hanging on a peg board wall that was a perfect match to my paint set. After Rod talked the guy down on his price we came home with it. |
This is my bike the day that I got to ride it for the first time. It was AWESOME to ride it after so much work and long hours. I still need to get the frame and fender painted. I'm going to get it titled, ride it for a while to put some miles on it. Later this winter I will take it apart and finish it. |
